ON THE ESTABLISHMENT OF IIM IN ODISHA

Congratulations to people of Sambalpur! They have succeeded in convincing the state government what people of Berhampur could not do in all these years. In the state of Odisha you won’t be heard unless your noise is the loudest. No other logic works here and the white elephants sitting in the State Secretariat give two hoots to the social tension and regional sentiments that such decisions generate. Berhampur’s case can only be compared with a situation of "Darkness Under the Lamps".
If the CM of the State represents you and he is not convinced about your eligibility and potentials- then whom do you complain? It is as if Berhampur city known for its entrepreneurial culture is wasting its energy and efforts in trying to convince the useless leadership ruling Odisha with no vision and sense of purpose, for whom central Institutes are like real-estate projects meant for decoration purpose and their social and economic implications matter too little for them. But, we shall keep trying our best!

  1. Dear Mr. Tripathy,

I fully understand your sentiments about non-establishment of a Central Institute at Berhampur. Being a Berhampurean, I also felt very sad after IIM is given to Sambalpur. The only consolation is that it is established beyond Bhubaneswar and its adjoining territory. However, one thing always comes to my mind I don't know whether you will agree or not. Berhampur's performance is one of the best in education so far as results are concerned. But what is the state of affairs in educational institutes situated at Berhampur at present? BU has become a den of anti-socials and is a symbol of corruption. Khallikote College is a dangerous place at the time of elections and not say other smaller institutions at Berhampur. Let us introspect first. Suppose we get IISER or IIIT and I hope, at least one of these two will be at Berhampur (if Mr. Sanjay Debsharma is to be believed), but do we have the capabilities of maintaining these? The main problem with us is selfishness and lack of leadership. Unless that is sorted out, Berhampur will continue to be neglected.
