Can government of Odisha explain WHY BERHAMPUR CITY has been excluded from the Smart City list

Government of Odisha has proposed the central government to cover 10 cities of the State under the ‘100 smart cities’ plan. But the State Government forgot about Berhampur city for being the obvious choice. This does not come as a surprise, because negligence and discrimination towards Berhampur has become the order of the day.

  2. This is big surprising. How govt didn't considered Berhampur is the part of Odisha. Berhampur MLA and MP should give this answer. What they did since 15 years for Berhampur.

  3. I frankly don't understand what changes will happen to Berhampur once it is included in the list of Smart Cities. The people of Berhampur have so many unfulfilled promises in their kitty that once these really happen, Berhampur will really thrive as a future metropolitan. But as we have seen, it is always subject to gross neglect and basic things like safe drinking water, good roads, drainage, hygiene, sanitation are luxury in Berhampur. So let us get our acts together to ensure such things on priority basis. However, I do support the move for establishment of IIM at Berhampur because earlier the IIT was hijacked from the city and in lieu a Government Engineering College of much smaller scale was established. Also, we have witnessed neglect of railways (like not sanctioning Gopalpur-Raygada line, Berhampur-Phulbani line, and not making monetary provision for the wagon factory etc.). The state Government is also not keen on development of Berhampur and the nearby port of Gopalpur for which the latter is relegated to almost like a seasonal port, whereas Dhamra, which was established later, is doing well and we should not feel surprised if Astarang will be the next most important port in the state. I feel, the people of Berhampur are partly responsible for this as there is no awareness and most of the people are more concerned for fulfilling their selfish motives.

  4. The local MP and MLA are best qualified to give a reply. The MLA from Hinjilicut should also be put this question. After all Berhampur has voted overwhelmingly for the "Genda". Now nothing can be done, please wait for another five years to get the answer to the question.
